Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, has attended a seminar on tolerance in Islamic history which could interest those with property in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed, who is also a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council - which assists with the ruling of Abu Dhabi and holds weekly meetings on issued raised by the authorities - heard researcher of Islamic intellectual heritage Dr Rashid Alckheon speak on the issue, the WAM Emirates News Agency Reports.
A number of other senior Abu Dhabi figures were present at the event and Dr Alckheon hailed the talk as a success.
"I have never addressed before a gathering of thinkers and decision-makers of this level, who at the same time allow the lecturer to speak without restrictions," he was quoted as saying.
Dr Alckheon explained that the issue of Islamic tolerance throughout history has never been explored before, noting that the number of verses in the Quran emphasising the need for tolerance far outweigh those that refer to fighting.
