A new pledge by Abu Dhabi school directors could be of interest to those looking at property investment in Dubai who want to lower their carbon footprint.
The Sustainable Schools Initiative (SSI) was launched by the Environment Agency Dubai (EAD) last year and links parents, students and teachers with the community to promote environmental sustainability.
Dr Jaber Al Jaberi, director of the environment policy sector of EAD, said: "Our rationale for launching this project with schools is the fact that students are the future stakeholders and constitute nearly 25 per cent of the population."
He added that it is this group who need equipping with a positive attitude and the right sorts of skills to be able to tackle the environmental problems of today.
Dr Al Jaberi further commented on a recent survey commissioned by the EAD, which detailed a significant gap between proactive environmental behaviour compared to environmental awareness.
Last month the organization ran activities under the banner of Global Partnership for Global Benefits, to rally the public into switching over to ozone-friendly CFC-free products, in conjunction with the United National Environmental Programme.
