Give from your heart. Save a heart.

The Kanu Heart Foundation is the vision of international footballer, Nigerian Kanu Nwankwo, and was set up in 2000 following his own battle with a heart condition. To date, the Foundation has carried out 452 heart surgeries with an outstanding 98.5% success rate. Currently all the surgeries are done in foreign countries such as the UK, India and Sudan, with all costs covered by the Kanu Heart Foundation.

Kanu hopes to raise enough funds to launch the Foundation’s very own 40 bed Cardiac Specialist Hospital, which will offer free heart surgeries to children under 12 and highly subsidised ones for adults. The Federal government has already awarded a piece of land in Abuja for the project.

THE FIGURES

  • 452 heart surgeries performed
  • 98.5% success rate
  • Up to £20,000 – the current cost of each heart operation
  • 250 children and 100 adults – the number of lives that could be saved every year at the new Cardiac Specialist hospital

OUR WORK WITH THE KANU HEART FOUNDATION

We are proud to support Kanu’s tireless work in helping save the lives of so many young people across Africa. It is honour to be involved in the Kanu Heart Foundation, especially given Kanu’s own personal involvement in the charity, as well as his commitment to The First Group, as a brand ambassador and member of The First Team.

"During a recent trip to Nigeria we had the privilege of attending an event at which Kanu was honoured for his illustrious football career. The biggest surprise of the evening came when 14 children, whose lives were saved by heart surgery funded by The Kanu Heart Foundation, joined him on stage. It was during this touching moment that we realized that Kanu was not just a football player but a very special individual who has used his extraordinary talent and fame to save children's lives."
