Dubai outranks Manhattan in hotel room development
03/07/2012 - Dubai Property News
Dubai will add around 54% more new hotel rooms to the market than Manhattan this year. According to a report by Jones Lang La Salle, the influx of 5000 new guest rooms, which is almost double the amount that opened last year, are being completed to meet the huge boom in Dubai’s hotel demand. Figures from Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing show guest arrivals shot up by 2.6 million in the first quarter of this year, up 9% on 2011. The number of nights stayed by guests in the city’s hotels and hotel apartments also soared by 22%, resulting in a 24% rise in hotel revenue.
The statistics provide yet more proof that Dubai’s hotel industry continues to go from to strength. Virtually every major luxury hotel operator now has a presence in the emirate. Global brand Starwood, for example, manages 15 hotels in Dubai, making it the largest concentration of Starwood hotels in any single city outside New York. It was also recently revealed that the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2, which has been docked in Dubai for the last few years, will be converted into a permanent 300 room luxury hotel, with work due to finish within the next 18 months.
